My Award Speech

So, finally after one week, the much awaited MBC coverage of the BCS Mauritius 2011 IT personality award has been broadcasted on JT de 19.30. The video is as follows:

After receiving the award, I sat down on my respective allocated table seat…I could not believe, it finally happened. The persons on the same dining table were congratulating me as I had honoured the table. They did not hesitate to have a look at the prestigious crystal trophy which I won. Some minutes later, a guy came and kindly requested me to come outside for an interview. He told me ‘to ene vedette aster’ which a sleek smile on his face.

I had to wait my turn to be interviewed by Elvin Ramnauth.

Damn it!

I was constructing my Award Speech whilst waiting for the Minister of IT complete his interview. I was nervous, didn’t knew what to say and how would I be in front of an MBC TV Camera with spotlight on me..

The waiter/waitresses had noticed my nervousness. They were kind enough to offer me some cool water and wished me ‘Congrats’.

The few minutes that I had to contruct the Award Speech of the First BCS Young IT Specialist Award 2011 were over.

In my mind:

-the remarks made by a BCS executive ‘You are not young, but very young‘. ( honestly, I was discouraged by this remark. I got an indication that I should not had posted my entry for such a national-basis award. I knew that the other IT guys under 30 would be definitely more mature than me. However I also thought that we, university students or fresh graduates, we have great potential. As students we can prove ourselves by creating innovative projects. The latter could work or eventually fade out but its the effort in the process that counts. For me, I think uni students should not study for a degree just for the sake of a job; Harvard undergraduates believe that inventing a job is better than finding a job. I encourage uni students to do things they are passionate about, and if those things could earn some $$$, that’s cool. Yeah, it can be a pain in the ass as Time management is important, but hey, I took risk, I did it and today am proud of being awarded as a fresh graduate from the University of Mauritius.

my achievements (I was not confident  my project portfolio would be stronger than others, given that I am still in the learning process and ‘Garaz Developeurs’ has just started to produce solid Websites)

-what in the future I intend to unlock now that I have won the award. (euhh opening my own internet web company is in the forecast, after 5 more years of experience (lets say in year 2017)

So to conclude, I hope my unprepared, on the spot BCS Young IT Specialist 2011 Award Speech was OK.

Thank you.

When I regained my seat, I became emotional. Became engaged in phone calls to thank all the well-wishers and tweeted and posted the pic of the trophy via Facebook iphone app.
